Consumer alert on baby-walkers

European consumer groups have said that baby-walkers could kill children and called for them to be withdrawn

European consumer groups have said that baby-walkers could kill children and called for them to be withdrawn. They said they had been unable to find a single model in Europe which they regarded as safe. Mr Jim Murray, director of BEUC, the European federation of consumers' organisations, called for tough new safety standards. He said existing baby-walkers should be taken off the market.

"As the Christmas rush approaches, we are sending out an urgent warning to parents about the dangers of baby-walkers to try to avoid the senseless and sometimes fatal accidents which we have seen in the past."
