Six restaurants received closure orders from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland in January after breaching food safety legislation.

The orders were served on A1 Kebab, Castle Street, Roscommon; River View Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway, Abbey Street, Tipperary Town; Grill to Chill, 4 Oliver Plunkett Road, Letterkenny, Donegal and Clare’s Pizzeria, 54 New Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

Closure orders can involve the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities. They are served when an improvement order is not complied with or where there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health in the premises.

Two further closure orders were served under European control of foodstuffs regulations on Giles Brothers Fish Shop, 167 Phibsborough, Dublin 7 and Green Masala Indian Restaurant and Takeaway, Westgate, Wexford

Also in January, the HSE carried out two successful prosecutions on Tralee Central Hotel, Maine Street, Tralee, Kerry and Salvadors/The Med restaurant, High Street, Killarney, Kerry.

FSAI chief executive Prof Alan Reilly said: "Full compliance with food safety and hygiene standards is essential for all food businesses. There is absolutely no excuse for putting consumers' health at risk through negligent practices."
