Supermarket wars: About time prices came down. I for one am sick of the farming lobby whingeing and whining. Anybody else find it odd such an industry has an entire government department dedicated to it whilst the 300,000-plus people working in retail have no such representation? I have a sneaking suspicion the farming crew will use these price wars to finagle even more money from the pinata that is the Common Agricultural Policy.

I and my friends have decided we will not vote for any candidate, local, byelection or European, who offers any succour to the farming lobby at the expense of the criminally ignored retail worker sector. – Citizen Girl

Plastic bags and Dublin Airport

You can bring/use any such bag, it can be a sandwich bag or similar, and if you bring your own you will not have to pay any money. Yes, the charge is a little too high for the value, but I think you pay the penalty for not being properly prepared. – Joerg

Ryanair

When booking our latest trip we decided that we had enough of the “Ryanair experience” and spent an extra €50 each to fly with Aer Lingus. For that price we get an assigned seat, 20kg baggage allowance and don’t have to get up at stupid o’clock to check bags in. Because of the generous, ie standard, baggage allowance and assigned seating, there will not be a scramble to try and cram in oversized luggage into the overhead bins.

So the only thing we have to worry about now is that Aer Lingus aren't on strike that day. I've decided that I'll spend up to €100 to avoid flying Ryanair where possible. Life's too short to put up with such a miserable service. – Dave
