Republican Sinn Fein will discuss a motion offering support for "continued resistance to British rule" at its ardfheis in Dublin this weekend. The party said it expects about 200 delegates to attend the two-day event.

Security sources say Republican Sinn Fein is the political wing of the Continuity IRA, a claim the party denies. The Continuity IRA has claimed responsibility for a bomb attack which seriously injured an RUC officer in Castlewellan, Co Down, earlier this month.

The conference opens on Saturday morning but will meet in closed session until the afternoon when political motions will be debated.

The keynote address will be delivered on Sunday by the party president, Mr Ruairi O Bradaigh.

Ninety-three motions will be discussed. One resolution calls for the party to intensify its campaign to "destabilise British/Stormont rule and be vociferous in presenting our alternatives". Another opposes acceptance of any new police force set up in the North.

It states that "a change in the colour or the cut of the uniform of any British police force does not make it any less a British force". A resolution from the NorthWest Comhairle Ceantair calls for an international public inquiry into "British intelligence collusion in the murder of nationalists" in the North.

Another motion condemns media claims that Republican Sinn Fein is linked to the 32 County Sovereignty Movement. The media are also criticised for failing to "report the truth" on the North and siding with the political establishment on both sides of the Border.
