Controlled explosion on Dublin bomb

An Army bomb disposal unit carried out a controlled explosions on a nail bomb that was found in north Dublin last night.

The device was discovered under a car that was parked outside a house on Broombridge Road in Cabra West, Dublin 7 at around 10.40pm.

Gardaí sealed off the road and erected a cordon around the area and a number of local residents were evacuated from their homes until 1.30am.

Following the controlled explosion, the remains of the bomb were taken by the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to McKee Barracks for forensic examination.

A Garda spokesman said the car and other items found at the scene will also be  examined.

There were no injuries reported and no arrests made.
