A former Limerick councillor who was sentenced to eight months imprisonment on fraud charges has been admitted to hospital following a suspected heart attack.
Michael Kelly was convicted at Limerick District Court on 26 charges of tax and social welfare fraud.
Mr Kelly checked out of hospital on Wednesday in order to appear at his court hearing today. He was being treated for chest pains.
He was re-admitted to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital this morning and has been described as being critical but stable.
Mr Kelly served as a member of Limerick City Council for three years from 1999 to 2002.
He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment and his company was fined €3,000 and an additional €3,500 witness expenses. Mr Kelly was charged with eight VAT and income-tax offences, seven summonses against his company, Crestwin Ltd, and 12 breaches of the Social Welfare Act.
