The 10-month-old boy who was critically ill following a horrific car crash earlier this week died yesterday.
Harvey Desmond, of Masseytown, Macroom, Cork, was on a life-support machine since the two-car collision near Macroom last Tuesday. Medics at the scene attempted to resuscitate the baby and stabilised his condition. He was taken to Cork University Hospital but was declared clinically dead some time later.
He died at the hospital yesterday morning. According to sources, Harvey's family gave permission for multiple organ donations and a team of experts arrived in Cork yesterday to carry out the operation.
Harvey was among six people who were taken to hospital following the collision, including three other children. Harvey's mother, as well as the second mother involved in the accident and one other child, are still in hospital. Harvey's funeral will take place at 2pm today at St Colman's church in Macroom.
