Despite losing at Dalymout Park tonight Shelbourne retained top spot in the FAI Premier Division but they are joined by Cork City who overcame Derry City at Turner's Cross.

There was plenty of action during the Dublin derby at Dalymount but the young guns of Bohemians held out 2-1 over champions Shelbourne.

Alan Moore put Shelbourne ahead after 18 minutes when he converted an Joseph Ndo cross into the far side of the goal. Bohemians were unlucky not to equalise minutes later when Stephen Ward's shot from the edge of the box was turned over.

It was player-manager Gareth Farelly who inspired the comeback with the first goal courtesy of a nice 1-2 with Tony Grant which he finished with a cracker of a strike to the back of the net on 37 minutes.

Three minutes later Stephen Ward put the home side ahead when he followed up on Dominic Foley's saved header and turned the rebound home.

Shelbourne came out with all guns blazing in the second half but scorned their chances - not least when Jason Byrne totally missed the target ten minutes in with the net gaping.

That result allowed Cork to join Shelbourne at the top, courtesy of a 2-0 win over Derry City. Kevin Doyle was the hero for the home side - scoring the first and setting up substitute John O'Flynn for the second.

Former Waterford United player Alan Riley came back to haunt his former employers as he set up all three of Drogheda United's goals from set pieces in an easy 3-0 victory.

Gavin Whelan converted the first on 4 minutes, while Stuart Malcom scored the second on 23. Waterford's misery was confirmed early in the second half when Pat Purcell turned Riley's set piece into his own net.

At Inchicore the referee had a big influence on the game as St Patrick's Athletic finished with 10 men while Longford were reduced to nine. Despite that the visitors managed to win by the only goal - courtesy of Andy Myler who turned home an Alan Murphy pass on 50 minutes.

Out at Belfield UCD and Shamrock Rovers played out a disappoint 0-0 draw. Once again the students were guilty of wasting their chances in front of goal - nine in the first half alone.
