A Cork man has been charged with the manslaughter of his partner, who disappeared more than eight years ago.

A Cork man has been charged with the manslaughter of his partner, who disappeared more than eight years ago.

Mr Timothy O'Driscoll (45) was accused today at Skibbereen District Court of the unlawful killing and assault of Ms Michelle McCormack.

He was also charged with preventing her lawful burial at Kinsale Harbour.

Ms McCormack, a mother of one, vanished from a holiday caravan and camping site near Clonakilty, Co Cork, in July 1993. Despite widespread publicity and lengthy land and sea searches by gardaí, she was never found.

Mr O'Driscoll, of Macroom, Co Cork, was remanded in custody for a week.
