Preliminary results on tests of a calf which showed symptoms of foot-and-mouth are negative.
A spokeswoman at the Department of Agriculture said restrictions were still in place at the farm near Drumcollogher in Co Cork where the calf was being kept, and at the farm in Co Limerick from which it was purchased.
Samples taken from the calf last week after mouth lesions were discovered, were sent to Pirbright Laboratory in Surrey.
The spokeswoman said further results on the samples were due tomorrow, but the Department was not unduly concerned about these.
