A second man was earlier arrested in connection with the stabbing of Brian McKee (24) of Ballinure Avenue, Mahon.

Gardaí yesterday arrested a 27-year-old man. A 24-year-old man was arrested in the Mayfield area early this morning.

Mr McKee (24), a father of two children, was stabbed just feet from his own home and later underwent surgery. He died in hospital, however. Medical staff at Cork University Hospital (CUH) fought for nearly 12 hours to save him.

A post mortem examination took place today.

Garda forensic experts sealed off and examined a large area running from where the injured man was found back to where they believe the incident occurred.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses.
