Rail services in Cork may be hit with further disruption after two drivers were reportedly taken off the payroll after refusing to supervise training shifts.

Iarnród Éireann said the two drivers were in breach of the LRC agreements by refusing to take out the training train.

Less then two weeks ago, unofficial work stoppage by unions in Cork derailed the travel plans of thousands of commuters and is estimated to have cost Iarnród Éireann around €2 million.

Drivers ended their action after a deal was hammered out after following LRC intervention.

That action began when a driver was removed from the payroll after refusing to drive a train to facilitate the training of new trainee drivers.

The other 40 Cork-based train drivers took unofficial industrial action in support.
