A woman from Cork has been killed in a crash in Victoria, Australia.

A woman from Cork has been killed in a crash in Victoria, Australia.

The woman (28), from Cork city, was on a backpacking trip when the minivan in which she was a passenger rolled over an embankment near Kenley, about 400km north of Melbourne.

The crash happened at about 5pm local time on Saturday (8am Irish time).

She was one of eight backpackers in the van, which had pulled over to allow a truck to pass, but it rolled over an embankment.

Police at the scene of the crash believe the driver lost control of the vehicle as the van pulled over.

The Irish backpacker and a 25-year-old woman were thrown from the van.

Police said the Irish woman died at the scene while the other woman was seriously injured and was in hospital.
