A 17-year-old youth has appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court charged in connection with an arson attack on the home of a Green Party councillor.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Judge Uinseann MacGruairc on Saturday night charged with causing criminal damage to the home of Cllr Chris O'Leary.
The youth was also charged on four other counts, including reckless endangerment by causing risk of death or serious harm to Cllr O'Leary and his family, and three counts of causing criminal damage to two houses and a car.
Solicitor Frank Buttimer represented the teenager, who was remanded in custody to Cork Prison to appear before Cork District Court again this morning.
A second youth, also aged 17, arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge.
Cllr O'Leary, his wife Angela and 12-year-old daughter Orla escaped when their home in Mahon, Cork, was petrol bombed in the early hours of Friday morning. The Green Party representative has insisted he will not be silenced in his campaign against crime, anti-social behaviour and drugs.
