An interim order preventing Sligo Corporation from demolishing the the Harper Campbell Warehouse building in Union Street in the town was made by the High Court yesterday.

The injunction, returnable to Monday, was sought by Mr Nicholas Prins, a land agent and member of the national council of An Taisce. Mr Prins said in an affidavit that he was astonished yesterday to see that the corporation had begun to demolish the warehouse. Mr Patrick Keane SC, with Mr Esmonde Keane, for Mr Prins, said the injunction application was being made by Mr Prins in his personal capacity. Counsel said it was an anomalous situation where the county manager had agreed to demolish the warehouse without the approval of Sligo Corporation.

Mr Keane said the last he had heard from the scene in Sligo was that members of the corporation were sitting in on the site and preventing the demolition work, which was being undertaken by outside contractors.

Mr Prins, in his affidavit, said the corporation was in breach of Section 10 of the 1995 Heritage Act, and in breach of an implied undertaking given in a letter that it would at least consider the matter after receipt of the borough engineer's report before going further.
