Donegal County Council has warned that consumers in the county could face "severe water shortages" during 2004.
The local authority has issued an appeal to consumers to conserve water as levels in several reservoirs and lakes are far below their normal levels.
"Rainfall during 2003 was unseasonably low and many of our water sources have reached unseasonably low levels as a result, particularly in the Letterkenny, Ramelton, Milford and Ballybofey/Stranorlar areas," a spokesperson explained.
