Fine Gael has appointed solicitors to accept papers in defamation proceedings being brought against the party leader by a north Dublin councillor.
Mr Cathal Boland is suing Mr John Bruton for damages arising from the report of a party inquiry into payments to public representatives. He is also suing members of the inquiry team, including the chairman, Mr James Nugent SC, and the Fine Gael general secretary, Mr Tom Curran. He is not bringing proceedings against the Fine Gael party.
Confirming that solicitors had been engaged, Fine Gael declined further comment on the case. But according to the Sunday Business Post, "well-placed spources" have confirmed that papers will be served on Mr Bruton and the other individuals at the end of this month.
