Two county councillors have been selected to stand in the forthcoming Tipperary South by-election. Mr Michael Maguire, who secured 4,000 first-preference votes in the last general election, was selected unanimously at a Fianna Fail convention in Cahir on Monday evening.
On the same night the Workers and Unemployed Action Group selected a Clonmel midwife, Ms Phil Prendergast, as its candidate.
