GAA:Cork's All-Ireland winning manager Conor Counihan has no intention of keeping the county board hanging on with regards his future employment with the Rebels.

After defeating Down in the Croke Park decider last month, Counihan was offered another term after his contract came to an end. However the Aghada man is still undecided if he is ready to commit to another campaign but did say he will make his decision known soon.

"Really I don’t want to drag it out too much,” said Counihan on the GAA website. “In the next week or two certainly, I’d be making a decision. I’d be anxious for everyone’s sake and that the thing moves on. Whatever way it goes, the quicker that happens the better.

“Whatever way it works out, it’s going to be difficult for Cork going forward. But there’s still a lot of hope there as well."

Cork also won the National League Division One title, and with yesterday’s fixture announcement, they start the league campaign against neighbouring rivals Kerry on Sunday, February 6th. It will be known in the coming weeks if Counihan will be at the helm for the league opener.

Last week Liam Sheedy resigned after guiding Tipperary to All-Ireland glory in the hurling championship, saying he found it difficult to combine work and management commitments.

"I think people know well now at this stage there is an awful lot of commitment in it,” added Counihan. “If you’re to do it anyway successfully, you certainly have to delegate responsibility. In my own case, I was very fortunate to have a very dedicated backroom team.”

“It’s a delicate balancing act. You need very supportive people in the family set-up and to date we’ve been fortunate in that. It’s a big task, but still it’s been very enjoyable too."
