Police in Northern Ireland are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary that happened in the Strangford Avenue area of Belfast last night.

At around 9:50pm a woman answered a knock at the door of her house and was struck in the face by two men who pushed her aside and demanded money.

According to a police spokeswoman the men then went upstairs where the male occupant of the house was in bed and began striking him with a walking stick. They then ransacked the house before making their getaway with a sum of cash.

The raiders are described as being 1.78m (5ft 10in) in height, clean-shaven with short dark hair. The other man is 1.75m (5ft 9in) in height and was wearing a light-brown scarf to disguise his face. Both men spoke with local accents.
