Riverdance founder Moya Doherty and her husband John McColgan have sold a Manhattan apartment for just under $5 million, months after paying $25 million (€19.75 million) for a summer house in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
The couple have sold their 167 sq metre (1,800 sq ft) penthouse in mid-Manhattan to Merrill Lynch vice chairman and chief administrative officer, Ahmass L Fakahany.
The Egyptian-born Mr Fakahany, who last year earned a salary of just $350,000 (€276,000) but a bonus of more than $8 million (€6.3 million), paid $4.92 million (€3.9 million) for the four-bedroom condominium at the Park Imperial, a 70-floor apartment complex on West 56th Street.
Ms Doherty and Mr McColgan had been letting the apartment to Alexandre von Furstenberg, a son of the fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.
Doherty and McColgan bought the apartment in 2004 for $4.25 million. The previous year, they bought an apartment for $5.5 million on the top two floors of an 18-storey building called La Residence, on Madison Avenue.
Last February, they broke records on the exclusive Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts when they paid $25.17 million, financed with a $37 million (€29 million) mortgage from Anglo-Irish Bank, according to the Boston Globe. The summer home, a 362 sq metre (3,900sq ft) shingled two-storey house, includes a 92-metre (300ft) private shore.
