A 21 YEAR OLD Ballymun man set out to kill his father with a knife and a baseball bat after his mother had been raped, a court heard yesterday.

The mother did not know who had committed the rape, as she was under the influence of drink and tablets, but the son believed his father was responsible, as he and his four brothers and sisters had been physically abused by him over a number of years.

With a baseball bat and knife, the son called to two addresses in Ballymun in the early hours of May 13th and smashed the windows of one flat when he failed to find his father. Garda Colm Healy told Dublin District Court: "I've no doubt that if he had found his father that night he would have killed him.

Garda Healy said the defendant was arrested the following morning and promised to leave the matter to gardai, but later that night was discovered outside his mother's house carrying two swords.

Defence solicitor Ms Fiona Brennan said the defendant was unaware the alleged rape had been reported to gardai.

Judge Terence Finn remanded the defendant, who admitted aggravated burglary, criminal damage and two counts of possessing offensive weapons, to September 25th for a probation report. A condition of bail was that the man stay away from his father.
