A 15-year-old boy who had spent the two previous nights in Donnybrook Garda station, Dublin, was ordered by the High Court yesterday to be freed. The Children's Court had previously ordered he be detained at Oberstown detention unit in Co Dublin but when gardai took him there it was full.

The boy had been at large for almost a month when gardai arrested him in Inchicore on Sunday after noon. On Monday, he had appeared before the District Court on charges relating to burglaries in Co Tipperary and Dublin. The District Court had ordered that he be detained in Oberstown until Friday.

When the case came before the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Kearns said there was no order directing that the boy be remanded in a Garda station. The situation was very unsatisfactory and he hoped it would come to an end rapidly.
