A court-ordered liquidation of French airline Air Lib will put the group's assets up for auction and leave its 3,200 staff out of jobs.

Air Lib - which flew to the French Antilles, Algeria, Cuba and a number of European and French destinations - was forced to ground its fleet earlier this month after losing its operating licence.

Founded in 2001 out of Swissair's insolvent French operations, Air Lib struggled to stay afloat after the government made clear it would no longer subsidise the debt-laden company.

Air Lib had urged the court in Paris to give it more time, saying two potential investors had shown an interest in saving the company. But prosecutors recommended liquidation.
