The High Court has dismissed an application by convicted sex offender Christy Griffin to be provided with Garda documents given to the judge at his trial.
Griffin, Swords, Dublin, was jailed for life by Mr Justice Paul Carney after a Central Criminal Court jury found him guilty of oral rape in 1998 of a girl in her teens and of rape in 2001. He was also found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault. The Court of Criminal Appeal reduced his sentence to 15 years in prison.
In his application for a judicial review, Griffin alleged that during his trial, Mr Justice Carney had a prejudicial dossier concerning Griffin. He sought permission to bring proceedings aimed at securing the disclosure of Garda intelligence and security files which, he claimed, were given to Mr Justice Carney.
Mr Justice Michael White dismissed the application and said any issue of discovery was for the judge to deal with during the trial.
