A Yugoslavian refugee who faces charges of grievous bodily harm on the owner of an Abrakebabra restaurant in O'Connell Street, Dublin, in June has lost an application in the High Court to have his bail reduced. Mr Justice Peter Kelly said Mr Afrim Xhafa, with an address in Millmount Place, Drumcondra, Dublin, faced more serious charges arising out of the incident in which another man had died.

He had also lied to Dublin District Court about his place of abode in Dublin, had used another man's social welfare allowance card as his own identity document and had evaded gardai.

Judge Kelly said independent bail of £10,000 had been granted in the District Court and he saw no good reason to reduce it.
