Residents of Kill, Co Kildare, who lost their High Court case to stop the State's biggest dump going ahead will know today if they can bring an appeal to the Supreme Court.

In the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Barr heard an application by the residents to allow them to appeal.

After hearing submissions on the application, the judge said he proposed to consider it and would give his judgment today.

The Dublin local authorities want to open a 15 acre dump at Arthurstown, near Kill, to take five million tonnes of waste from the capital over 10 years.
