The Circuit Criminal Court is to rule today on an application by the former assistant Dublin city and county manager, Mr George Redmond, to have his corruption trial stopped.
Lawyers for Mr Redmond (78) have made a number of submissions, including one which argues he cannot get a fair trial because of adverse media publicity.
At the end of a lengthy hearing last month, Justice Michael White reserved judgment until today.
Last October, the former official lost a High Court bid to prevent his trial from proceeding, and later decided not to appeal that decision. However, his legal team made further submissions before the start of the trial in relation to subsequent media coverage.
Mr Redmond faces two charges of corruption which relate to the sale of land by Dublin county council in Palmerstown and the compulsory purchase of land at Buzzardstown and Coolmine. It is alleged he received a gift of money as an inducement or reward in relation to the Palmerstown sale.
