A Co Louth man told gardai that two children taunted him into sexually assaulting them, a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has been told. Det Sgt Con Nolan said the defendant signed a statement in which he said that a nine-year-old boy had told him to have sex with his 12-year-old sister.

Det Sgt Nolan told Mr Roderick O'Hanlon, prosecuting, the defendant said the children had been teasing him while he carried out repairs in their home. The boy told him he could have sex with his sister if he could catch her.

He continued working but later pulled the girl on to a bed and felt her. She was laughing and leading him on. The boy was encouraging him. The girl told the defendant he should touch her brother's genitals, which he did.

It was the third day of the trial of a 61-year-old man who denies two counts of sexually assaulting the girl and one count of sexually assaulting her brother at their Louth home on December 11th, 1996. The trial continues.
