A 19-year-old man was fatally injured when part of a concrete wall he was demolishing on his father's farm collapsed on him, Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday.

Mr Ronan Daly, Cloran, Athboy, Co Meath, was using a sledgehammer to knock down the old wall to make way for a new milking parlour when the accident happened on July 4th last.

He had just completed an agricultural course at the time of his death.

He was taken to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, and transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he died later that same day. A post-mortem examination showed he died of severe head injuries.

His cousin, Karl Daly (14), who was with him at the time of the accident, raised the alarm with Ronan's father, Mr Thomas Daly, who was working in a nearby field.

He used a hoist to lift the rubble from Ronan's body.

Sgt Oliver Halpin, Delvin, said he saw a deep head wound on the young man when he arrived at the scene.

A slab of concrete wall had fallen on him.

The jury of five women and a man returned a verdict of accidental death.
