The Department of Agriculture yesterday said it was satisfied that a number of sheep, missing from a flock imported from the UK, had been accounted for.

James Kavanagh, of Raheenleigh, Myshall, Co Carlow, had appeared at Gorey District Court last week when the Department demanded that he produce the remaining 22 sheep from a flock of 541 sheep he had imported.

On that occasion his solicitor, Mr Anthony O'Gorman, said the outstanding sheep were grazing 8,000 acres on Mount Leinster. He gave the court an undertaking to produce the missing sheep.

At Wicklow District Court yesterday, State solicitor Mr Rory Benville said that seven live sheep and 15 carcasses had been handed over and the Department was satisfied that all the missing sheep had been accounted for.
