A Dublin solicitor told the High Court yesterday he believed that the Law Society's registrar, Mr Patrick J. Connolly, had misled him about the nature of an investigation carried out of his practice in 1993.
Mr Giles P. Kennedy, with a practice at Eccles Street, Dublin, said he had perceived or guessed there was a "hidden agenda" and that the inquiry was possibly an inquiry into his clients and into himself, but not an inquiry into his accounts.
He was being cross-examined by Mr Kevin Feeney SC, for the Law Society, in proceedings in which Mr Kennedy is seeking an order quashing a Law Society decision to order an inquiry by its disciplinary tribunal into his conduct. He is also seeking damages. The society denies his claims.
The hearing continues on Tuesday.
