A CO Meath man who threatened the staff of the Meat Chronicle and threatened to burn down its premises if it published his court case, ha been remanded in custody for week by Navan District Court.
Paul Jacob (19), of Troytown Heights, Navan, pleaded guilt to uttering a forged cheque at Trimgate Street, Navan, while bound to the peace on August 2nd last year.
Judge John Brophy initially sentenced him to three months detention. However, when this court heard the defendant had threatened the paper and it staff, the judge accused him of trying to gag the press and warned he may impose a two year jail sentence next week.
The court was told the defendant had entered the reception area of the paper and asked to see a reporter. When told the reporter was not available he said he would hold the reporter responsible and threatened the staff if his court case wad published.
