Munich - Bavaria's supreme court yesterday upheld a 1995 law that requires schools to hang crucifixes or crosses on classroom walls. Rejecting a legal challenge the Bavarian constitutional court ruled that the 1995 law did not violate the principle of religious neutrality enshrined in the federal constitution.

Hailing the decision, Bavaria's ruling Christian Social Union (CSU) said the issue was "finally off the agenda". But opponents of the law vowed to continue the battle and to take their case to the Federal Constitutional Court. - (Reuter)
