The High Court has upheld a decision to deport a man from Guinea who had claimed he fled to Ireland because he feared for his life after he was jailed for spying on the Guinean President.

The court noted the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue, has said the man would not be deported pending the outcome of any appeal to the Supreme Court.

Mr Justice Kelly yesterday refused to quash the decision of the Refugee Appeals Authority rejecting the appeal against deportation by Mr Sekou Camara (34) with an address at St Vincent's View, Mardyke, Cork.

The authority had said it was satisfied Mr Camara did not qualify for refugee status and stated there were too many inconsistencies in his story.

To succeed in his challenge to the deportation order, Mr Camara had to establish that the authority did not have any relevant material before it which would support its decision, Mr Justice Kelly said.

Mr Camara had failed to do so.
