The refurbishment of Cork courthouse is to proceed immediately, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr McDowell, announced yesterday.
Works on the exterior of the building on Washington Street in the city had been completed for some time. The Minister said a complete refurbishment and fitting out of the interior would now proceed.
Mr McDowell said he looked forward to announcing shortly the details of a financial package to commence the refurbishment works.
"This will come as a welcome relief to the city fathers of Cork and to the legal profession and members of the public," the Minister said. "The authorisation will allow this magnificent building to be restored to full glory."
The project has been estimated to cost €25 million in total.
