Olympics: Alistair Cragg confirmed he will be fit enough to race in both the 1500 metres and the 5000 metres, his specialist event.

Despite an Achilles injury Cragg  came through two track sessions this week and will first compete in Friday's 1500 metre heats.

In the build-up to Beijing the 28-year-old dropped out of the IAAF Grand Prix race in Monaco due to the Achilles injury and quickly became an injury worry for Beijing.

The Ireland team manager Patsy McGonagle has been pleased with progress made by Cragg and other athletes with injury concerns.

"Alistair hammered out a track session in his spikes on Saturday afternoon and is ready for the challenges ahead," said Mconagle. "He's in good spirits and will double up in Beijing, taking in the 1500m and then his main event, the 5000m."

Eileen O'Keeffe appears to have overcome her knee cartilage injury and is set to compete in the hammer throwing.

Derval O'Rourke also appears to be on the mend and ready for competing after her adductor muscle tear. Though, having been plagued by injury for much of the season it remains to be seen if the Cork hurdler will return to her best in time.

"In general things couldn't have gone much better since we got out here," added McGonagle. "The mood has been very, very good and improving all the time, and at this stage we're just looking forward to getting into Beijing and getting the show on the road."
