At least 36 people returning from a funeral in northern India were killed when their vehicle collided with a bus.
The accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh state when the driver of the truck carrying the funeral party lost control and rammed into an oncoming bus.
Police said the dead were all traveling in the truck. About a dozen people were injured.
"There were 54 people packed in the truck when the bus crashed into the vehicle from behind late Saturday," Budaun District Magistrate Amit Gupta said.
Thirty-four people, including the bus driver, died at the scene while two more died later in hospital.
"The bus driver was killed in the accident but all the other bus passengers were safe," a police spokesman said.
A huge sand mound, formed due to digging work along the road, could have caused the accident, officials said.
