Revenue officials have seized €500,000 in cash at Dublin airport from a man boarding a flight to Brussels.

The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime legislation from the 36-year-old Irish national.

Revenue officers were granted a three-month detention order by Judge John Coughlan in the Criminal Courts of Justice on Friday in order to carry out further investigations.

It is understood the cash, in large denominations, was discovered in the man’s hand luggage as part of an intelligence-led operation.
