Gardaí appeal for witnesses to daytime incident in house near busy Malahide street

A 78-year-old man was locked in a room by an armed burglar who forced his way into his house and got away with a quantity of jewellery.

The incident occurred in Malahide in Dublin at about 3pm on Monday afternoon.

The occupant of the house was said to be recovering from the incident and did not require medical attention.

However, he was locked in a room by his assailant, who was armed with a knife and who got away with a small quantity of jewellery, thought to be worth less than €1,000.

It is understood the elderly man was living alone.

Investigating gardaí have classed the incident as an aggravated burglary and have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Old Street area of Malahide, which would likely have been busy at the time, to come forward.
