The Institute of International and European Affairs is hosting an address by Bo Lundgren, director general of the Swedish National Debt Office, on Tuesday, July 7th, at 12:45 at their office in North Great George’s Street.
As minister of fiscal and financial affairs, Mr Lundgren played a leading role in averting the collapse of the Swedish banking sector in the early 1990s.
The model developed by Mr Lundgren and his colleagues included guaranteeing bank deposits and liabilities, creating asset management companies and “bad banks”, nationalising banks where necessary and demanding full disclosure from troubled institutions.
