Assault rifles and bomb equipment found in Co Louth

A large cache of arms and explosive material linked to dissident republicans has been found Co Louth.

The weapons found included AK47 assault rifles, mortars and components for making a bomb.

The discovery was made following a search of farm lands and a building near Jenkinstown, Co Louth as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident republicans.

The search at the site is due to resume on Tuesday.

Members of the Special Detective Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and local gardai are involved.

It is understood the weapons were buried and also stored in the walls of the building.
