Two men have been arrested after gardaí seized €1.2 million worth of cannabis products in Co Donegal yesterday.

The discovery was made when gardaí from Ballyshannon and Bundoran, accompanied by members of the Regional Support Unit, raided a "large cannabis cultivation operation" on the Donegal/Leitrim border.

Searches of lands and premises in the Carrickboy area saw 800 cannabis plants seized along with 30 kilos of cannabis resin.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Two men, aged 40 and 41, were arrested and are being questioned at Ballyshannon Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.

It was the second major drugs haul recovered by gardaí in the space of a day after heroin with an estimated street value of €300,000 was seized during a search at the Coolmine Industrial Estate in Dublin.

There were no arrests.
