Contraband cigarettes with street value of €4m seized

The eight million smuggled cigarettes were seized by Revenue in Co Limerick

More than eight million smuggled cigarettes, with a street value of €4 million have been seized by Revenue in Co Limerick.

The contraband cigarettes had arrived into Dublin from China, via Rotterdam.

In an intelligence-led operation, Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner and detector dog Grace were deployed and the contraband cigarettes branded “Richmond”, “Eton “and “Gold Classic” were identified in a shipping container. The consignment was said to contain clothing.

Revenue officers carried out searches at premises in Limerick on Tuesday and Wednesday.
