Court told of six months of CCTV footage in Graham Dwyer case

Judge makes order appointing a second junior counsel for the defence

The Central Criminal Court has heard there is six months of CCTV footage in the case of murder accused Graham Dwyer.

Mr Dwyer, a south Dublin architect, is charged with murdering Dublin childcare worker Elaine O’Hara (37) in Co Dublin on August 22nd, 2012.

Today Ronan Kennedy BL defending, made an application for a second junior counsel to be assigned to the case.

The court was told the defence had one senior and one junior counsel assigned to the case.

Mr Dwyer of Kerrymount Close in Foxrock was present in court for the hearing.

The 41-year-old architect is in custody awaiting trial, which is scheduled to begin on January 19th next year and is expected to last six weeks.

Mr Kennedy informed Mr Justice Paul Carney that there were 540 witness statements and 408 witnesses in the case.

The barrister said the book of evidence comprises of seven volumes and there was six months of CCTV footage in the case.

He told the court there were 925 exhibits and five terabytes of data in computer evidence.

Mr Justice Carney said he would make the order for a second junior counsel for the defence.

“There is a very significant amount of work to be done which justifies another junior,” said the judge.
