Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy has been cleared of speeding on the N4 in Dublin.

The Dublin TD was summonsed to appear at Dublin District Court after a fixed penalty notice for breaking the speed limit went unpaid.

Garda Shane Bonner told Judge John Coughlan that on the night of March 16th, hast he was operating speed detection equipment which registered the politician’s car travelling at 118km/h in a 80km/h zone.

He said this resulted in a fixed penalty notice being sent to Mr Murphy’s address but “the ticket was not paid and a summons was subsequently generated”.

Mr Murphy (32) contested the case and told the court did not receive the fixed penalty notice, which had been allegedly sent to his then address at The Copse, Woodpark, Ballinteer, Dublin.

He said he moved in May but had all his post, including his court summons, was redirected to his new address. The summons, he explained to the court, was “the first I heard of it”.

Judge Coughlan said Mr Murphy “is a man of absolute integrity, in the circumstances I dismiss the case”.
