Sligo murder accused is in Central Mental Hospital, court hears

A man charged with murdering Natalie McGuinness (23) in Sligo on October 28th , is in custody in the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum, a court heard today.

Oisin Conroy (33) with an address at The Mews, Mail Coach Road, Sligo, was not at Sligo District Court today when his case was called.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said he understood that the accused was in the Central Mental Hospital.

Last week at the same court Judge Kilrane had remanded the accused in custody to Castlerea prison and had placed him on suicide watch after being told that he was a threat to himself.

Mr Conroy was today remanded in custody to appear at Harristown court at Castlerea prison on Friday, November 13th, for preparation of the book of evidence.

Ms McGuinness, a native of Easkey, Co Sligo, died on October 28th following an incident at an apartment on Mail Coach Road, Sligo.

Inspector Ray Mulderrig applied for a remand to December 4th but Judge Kilrane said that as the accused was in custody he could not do that.

Mr Gerard McGovern solicitor for the accused said he had not consented for a remand to December .

At last week’s hearing Keith O’Grady BL asked that his client receive psychiatric evaluation as “a matter of urgency”. The judge heard that Mr Conroy had suffered self-inflicted injuries
