A French woman wanted by authorities in France for allegedly abducting her 16 year-old son has been granted bail at the High Court in Dublin.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was arrested last week by gardaí on foot of a European arrest warrant issued in France.

The State had objected to the woman’s bail application.

At Monday’s hearing, Sgt James Kirwan told the court he had very serious concerns about the woman being a flight risk.

The woman is expected to contest her extradition application.

Ms Justice Aileen Donnelly gave the woman two alternatives for securing her bail. She would be released on either her own bond of €75,000 or on her own bond of €100 plus an independent surety of €75,000.

The judge remanded the woman in custody, with consent to bail, until January 11th next.
