Ex-garda misconduct finding overturned at High Court

Retired Wexford inspector Michael Walsh feels ‘exonerated’ after three year battle

A retired Wexford Garda inspector has succeeded in a High Court action to overturn a decision by the Garda Board of Inquiry which had found him guilty of misconduct.

Michael Walsh, who lives in Piercestown, Wexford, is to receive a Certificate of Service classifying his time with An Garda Siochana as exemplary following a three-year battle to clear his good name.

“I feel happy at being exonerated,” he said.

The legal team of An Garda Síochána agreed to a comprehensive settlement of Mr Walsh's action, including the making of a High Court order quashing all the findings of the inquiry board made on May 17th 2012, at Templemore, Co Tipperary.

The High Court action brings to “ brings to an end a three-year battle by Mr. Walsh to clear his good name,” his solicitors said in a statement.

Retired Inspector Walsh was based in Wexford for the majority of his career, part of that as head of the Wexford traffic division.
