A teenage boy who was knocked down in a hit-and-run as he walked across a pedestrian crossing in Tallaght, Dublin, has settled his legal action for €50,000.
Aaron Ryan, then aged 13, was lawfully crossing at the pedestrian crossing on Fortunestown Road, Tallaght, on November 13th, 2013, when he was struck by a car which remains untraced and unidentified, the High Court heard.
His case, brought on his behalf by his mother Aishling Ryan, Kiltalown Road, Tallaght, was against the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland.
It was claimed the untraced motorist was driving in a careless or dangerous manner, failed to yield right of way and failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle.
Michael Byrne SC, for Mr Ryan, who turns 18 next month, said he had made a remarkable recovery and was now at university.
His client had suffered multiple soft-tissue injuries as a result of the incident, suffered flashbacks in the immediate aftermath and also suffered headaches.
Counsel said the boy went on to do very well at school and was now studying at third level.
Approving the settlement, Mr Justice Kevin Cross said it was a very good one and he was delighted to see the boy had made such a good recovery.
